X-wing Dials

Each ship type has its own unique dial. All expansion products contain a dial for each ship in that product. Dials are used during the Planning Phase to secretly select maneuvers.

  • When a player is instructed to set a ship’s dial, the player can choose the same maneuver that it already has selected unless stated otherwise.
  • Players are not allowed to touch or look at their opponents’ facedown dials. If a player wishes to touch or look at their own facedown dial, they must inform their opponent they wish to do so before touching the dial.
  • Each faction has its own Maneuver Dial Upgrade Kit. These dials assemble slightly differently than the standard dials and use a curved indicator below the maneuver instead to indicate selected maneuvers.

Dial Sources and Interchangeability[]

You'll receive a ship's dial either from the expansion that contains it, or the conversion kit for your faction. Sometimes you may have more ship models than dials, e.g. because the Rebel Conversion Kit didn't have enough dials for all your Z-95s, or because you lost one. Or perhaps you play multiple factions and want to fly more of a ship type than you have dials in that faction. For this you have a couple options.

Using Dials From Other Factions[]

Some players dabble in multiple factions, and will be able to not only use the ship models in both factions, but also the dials. If a ship is cross-faction (its ship name is identical in each faction) then its dial remains the same in each faction and is interchangeable. For example, the HWK-290's dial is the same whether you're flying it for the Rebellion or Scum & Villainy (and so the scum dial can be used in rebel lists, and the rebel dial in scum lists; all that's changed is color, just like the model). You'll have to use Scum pilots in scum lists and Rebel pilots in rebel lists, but the HWK models and dials from either faction work in both.

Likewise, an Empire player with lots of TIE Fighters to convert might also play Rebel; owning both conversion kits will give them a few more TIE dials thanks to the Rebel TIE Fighter. And the Rebel faction could fly all four Rebel TIEs just by using Empire TIE models and dials as needed.

However, if the ship's name changes (such as Modified YT-1300 vs Customized YT-1300), that means it's a totally different type of ship and the dial won't be transferrable!

This cross-faction benefit extends beyond conversion kits. Consider a Scum & Separatist player who owns 1 Scum Firespray, then buys the Jango Fett's Slave I expansion. They will now have Jango's Firespray and all the cards to play it in the Separatist faction. They also now have an additional firespray model & dial to use in their Scum lists (e.g. to fly Boba Fett with Kath Scarlet), and they could use their Scum firespray model & dial in the separatist faction (e.g. to fly Jango with Zam). Expansions for cross-faction ships can be exciting times for cross faction players.

Using First Edition Dials[]

If necessary, some of your first edition dials may be useable. Most dials changed in the conversion from first edition (and so the 1E versions won't have any use now), but those that remained the same are valid to use in second edition in a pinch. The difference will be blue maneuvers are green on the 1E dial (this was changed because blue is more distinct from green, especially for players with color blindness).

Everything else on the dial matches up though, so as long as your opponent is okay with it, this should (probably) be valid. Depending on your area's TOs, I can't guarantee it won't raise eyebrows in a tournament though.

Here's a list of dials that remained unchanged:
