AMG hasn't released updated Huge Ship squad and loadout points (as of this writing, Feb 2023), so players are using one of two methods to do this themselves.
Simple Points and Infinite Loadout[]
Find the 2.0 points for the ship you want to fly, divide by 10, and round to the nearest whole number. Give the ship infinite loadout, so it can equip as many upgrades as will fit in its slots.
Example: Rebel CR90 costs 134/10 = 13 points. Empire Gozanti costs 67/10 = 7 points.
Advantages[]
- Simple: This is a very straight-forward way to play 2.5 Epic
- Common: Lots of people have adopted this method
- Huge ships feel strong with all these upgrades
- Overall works quite well
Disadvantages[]
- Too Simple: There's not a lot of balancing the huge ships for 2.5, so there may be slight power imbalances. The Raider, for example, remains a monster.
- Have to look up 2.0 points
Custom Homebrew Points and Loadout[]
Some players choose points for each ship on their own, to balance the ship for 2.5. For example, Jon from Liberty Squadron (see Reddit post) created this points document.
Advantages[]
- Fine-Tunable: Specifying points and loadout for every ship allows fine adjustments and rebalancing.
- Adjusted: These efforts generally try to balance each ship's points and loadout to work well in 2.5, hopefully producing better results than the Simple method above.
Disadvantages[]
- Not universal: Everyone has their opinions on how to precisely balance each ship. With the simple division method above, you get what you get. Once you're working with custom choices, players can disagree with individual decisions and push for their own perspective.
- Depending on whose points you use, everyone's Epic experience and listbuilding advice can vary.
Conclusion[]
These disadvantages are not that big, and really the goal is just to play Epic. I think either method is fine for casual play, and if there are problems, players usually work them out.
So choose a method that works for your group and put those huge ships on the table!
