The aileron maneuver counts as performing a maneuver, so all the effects of the maneuver apply.  Passing through debris will stress you and may damage you, an asteroid may damage you, a gas cloud can strain you.

However, the aileron maneuver isn't part of the Activation sequence of Reveal Dial -> Perform Maneuver -> Perform Action, so bumping into another ship or passing through gas clouds and asteroids won't make you skip your Perform Action step (unless you then hit the obstacle or bump the ship on your Activation maneuver too).
